Playing with Light

Haven't used the flash in a while so broke it out for the evening. Got a couple of good ideas at least. I think this pic could be improved by a little front-light to bring out the labels, but I only had one strobe.

Time is an excellent Teacher

This was intended to be a shot of my tree with the moon shining through the clouds behind it. I set up the shot and, it being rather windy, waited for the wind to die down a bit before opening the shutter. Of course, by the time I had moved out of the way for a turning car (our street is used as a turn-around) and re-composed the shot, the wind had shifted the clouds and thoroughly obscured the moon. I took this anyway as a reminder of the need to work quickly.

Squirrel Pelt Saves Camera

Whatever this is (squirrel pelt?) it saved my camera tonight. As I was walking my dog he happened across this, picked it up and started to merrily chew it. I immediately made him spit it out, and realised that whatever it was would be a good subject for this project.

After the photo was taken, I pulled my camera up to check the shot, and it came away from the strap it was screwed to - apparently the screw had worked itself loose (due to an apparent missing rubber washer).

Had my dog not found this pelt and started to chew it, there's a good chance my camera would a little later have taken a tumble to the ground and suffered a nasty bruise or two.
